Terms of Service
Welcome to Wiltkey. By downloading, installing, or using this application, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Service.
Agreement & Acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User") and ArtFacility ("we", "us", "our") regarding your use of the Wiltkey client application and default routing services.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install, access, or use the Wiltkey software.
Description of Service
Wiltkey is a decentralized, local-first messaging protocol and client. Key features include:
- • Proximity Pairing: Contact exchange is gated by physical Bluetooth proximity. Users must be in physical range (registered RSSI signal strength closer than -75 dBm) to swap keys and establish a chat channel. Remote addition is prohibited by client design.
- • Byte Budgets (Wilt): Each channel has an allocated transfer capacity. Sending data (text, images, media) consumes bytes. Once depleted, the channel "wilts" (locks) until the users pair in person again to recharge the budget.
- • Decentralized Relays: Messages are routed through public or private servers ("relays"). We offer default relays, but the client supports compiling and running custom third-party relays.
User Ownership & Cryptographic Keys
Wiltkey does not store accounts on any centralized servers. You hold sole ownership over your local identity keys (Ed25519) and local database:
- No Recovery: We have no backup systems, password reset mechanisms, or remote access to your device. If you forget your PIN, delete the app, or lose your device, your identity and messages are permanently lost.
- Incorrect PIN Wipe: You acknowledge that 5 consecutive incorrect PIN entries will cause the app to automatically delete all local keys and chat data. We are not liable for any data loss resulting from this mechanism.
Acceptable Use & Conduct
Wiltkey's design inherently limits remote abuse because contacts can only be established in person. However, you agree to:
- Use the application in compliance with all local laws and regulations.
- Not use the app to harass, abuse, stalk, or threaten other individuals whom you meet physically.
- Not exploit default relay server bandwidth or attempt to overload/degrade default relay capabilities.
Open Source & Third-Party Relays
Wiltkey client and relay software are released under open-source licenses. You may choose to connect to relays run by third parties or self-host your own. We do not control, inspect, audit, or assume liability for the performance, logs, or availability of third-party relays.
Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability
WILTKEY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
IN NO EVENT SHALL ARTFACILITY (OR THE WILTKEY CONTRIBUTORS) BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING DATA LOSS, KEY WIPE, HARDWARE MALFUNCTION, OR THE SERVICE BECOMING UNAVAILABLE) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.
Governing Law
These Terms and your use of Wiltkey are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Poland, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal actions or proceedings related to Wiltkey shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in Poland.
